R-SERIES TORQUE SPRING

The CVT Torque Spring is crucial to the functioning of the CVT system. It functions in tandem with the roller weight inside the primary sliding sheave to automatically determine the appropriate transmission ratios based on weight, speed, and engine powerband. It will ascertain the initial acceleration rate and the response inside the cruising power zone. The CVT Torque Spring serves the additional purpose of keeping the belt taut enough to prevent sliding. While an excessively strong spring rate can also result in an over tensioned CVT belt and ineffective power delivery, an excessively mild spring rate can induce belt slippage and drastically limit power from the engine to the wheel. The lifetime of the CVT belt will also be shortened by both of these circumstances.
